Deepdale Conservation Weekend
Friday 3 to Sunday 5 February 2017
Friday evening to Sunday evening
If you enjoy the great outdoors and like the thought of working in the countryside of Deepdale Farm on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast as part of a conservation team for a couple of days, please read on ...
We are looking for a team of up to 20 volunteers, who’d like to learn some
practical conservation skills on an eco-friendly working farm.
Deepdale Conservation Weekend offers you the chance to stay for FREE in the
Deepdale Backpackers Hostel or on the campsite, half board provided (bed,
breakfast & evening meal), in exchange for two days work (10am to 3.30pm).
Friday evening we’ll have a chilli and on Saturday night we’ll have a bonfire
and BBQ!
Unfortunately, we can’t accept children on the weekend as insurance won’t
cover them.
The team is a maximum of 20 people working with Nathan from
Wild Influence
and some of the tourism and farm staff.
The itinerary for the weekend goes something like this:
Arrive Friday evening
Saturday
9am - Breakfast
10am - Off to the woods
Picnic lunch (you need to provide this or buy from Deepdale Cafe)
3.30pm - Back to the hostel for a cuppa and to rest the weary limbs
7pm - BBQ
Sunday
9am - Breakfast
10am - Off to the woods
Picnic lunch (you need to provide this)
3.30pm - Back to the hostel for a cuppa and goodbyes
If you have been with us for both days and would like to stay Sunday
night as well, then you’d be more than welcome.
Work will include activities like thinning woodland, planting hedges,
coppicing and other tasks to enhance the beauty and wildlife value of the
woodland and campsite. We may also include making Swedish candles and a
short lesson in hedge laying.
"I just wanted to say how much Dave, Kevin and myself enjoyed the
conservation weekend and the friends we made. Please pass on our thanks to
the team for their hospitality and the very enjoyable barbecue. I know it’s
the distant future but if you’re taking bookings for a future conservation
weekend please include all three of us on the list."
Mik, Derbyshire
Remember that you just need to bring food for lunch on the Saturday and
Sunday. Otherwise you just need a towel and some clothes suitable for
working in the woods, and some sturdy footwear, wellies or walking boots would
be ideal. Of course it never rains here, but bringing a waterproof might
not be a bad idea!
Due to insurance and health & safety issues, anyone wanting to take part in
the Conservation Weekend must be over the age of 21.
Accommodation is in dorm rooms, sharing with other conservation weekend
volunteers, usually single sex. If you’d like to upgrade to a private room
then that may be possible, subject to availability, let us know and we can let
you know the cost.
Price: FREE for those getting their hands dirty and attending the whole weekend (Friday evening to Sunday evening). There is an upgrade option to sleep in a private room rather than single sex dorm
Location: Deepdale Camping & Rooms, Deepdale Farm, Burnham Deepdale, North Norfolk Coast, PE31 8DD
